THE AREA
- Mechanicsburg is a borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. The borough is eight miles west of Harrisburg and is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle metropolitan statistical area. Mechanicsburg is home to many historic markers, such as Irving Female College (named for Washington Irving, a trustee), the first women's college in Pennsylvania to grant degrees in arts and sciences. This town's motto is "A Good Place to Live," and it must be true because Cumberland Valley's Mechanicsburg has been attracting residents and visitors since 1807. It was named after the prominent number of wagon mechanics in the town. Explore the Historic Downtown of Mechanicsburg while visiting the area.
- Chambersburg’s theme is “a clean, green, safe, and healthy community.” Chambersburg is a borough in and the county seat of Franklin County, in the South-Central region of Pennsylvania. It is in the Cumberland Valley, which is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. It also sits right outside of Caledonia State Park, a 1,125-acre park with fishing and hunting areas and hiking trails, including a section of the Appalachian Trail. The surrounding area has a large farming population, including many Amish and Mennonite families.
- York is a city in southern Pennsylvania. Downtown, the Historical Society Museum displays fine art, furniture and tall-case clocks. Nearby is the Victorian-era Bonham House. The Agricultural and Industrial Museum explores the city’s farming and manufacturing past. The Colonial Complex includes a mid-1700s home, a courthouse and the Golden Plough Tavern. The area’s vineyards are part of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail. Just north of York in East Manchester Township is one of only four Starbucks roasting facilities in the world. The historic York State Fair, which claims to be the country's oldest,[54] traces its roots to 1765. It runs every year in late July for ten days, encompassing an entire week and two weekends. In addition to typical fair attractions, such as rides, games and contests, it also wins regional recognition for hosting many musical artists, such as Alabama, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
